The Project is implementing in a rural set up of Badamba Block of Cuttack District in the State of Odisha in India. The project covered weaver communities of this area. This area has a unique culture of weaving by almost every family especially women members. This area is widely known for its local brand of apparel known as Mania Bandha Saree (A women attire in India). This Block consists of 38-Gram Panchayats (Rural Self Governance Institutions) covering 140-villages with a population of approximately 16 million. Out of these 140 villages and 38 Gram Panchayats, the Project identified 5-Gram Panchayats where predominantly weaving communities reside. Therefore, the project was implemented in 5-Gram Panchayats of Badamba Block of Cuttack District covering weaving families especially the women weavers of the above Panchayats.
This project is Supported by The Resilience Fund for Women. Under the present Project, an attempt has been made to build capacity and life skill at the grassroots level in rural communities, which are related to the global value chains of companies that manufactured apparel and also food processing, so that, women’s economic resilience can be improved to prevent violence. This is possible through measures like creating and strengthening grassroots women’s organisations, network building and creating enhanced opportunities to lead a life with dignity that focuses on critical health and safety issues that impede women’s economic resilience in their communities.
