AWAAZ DO \u2013 \u201cSpeak Up\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n

AWAAZ DO<\/strong>\u00a0(meaning\u00a0\u201cSpeak Up\u201d<\/em>) is a campaign to address\u00a0Violence Against Women (VAW)<\/strong>\u00a0in the eastern Indian state of\u00a0Odisha<\/strong>. It was launched in\u00a02013<\/strong>\u00a0in the state capital\u00a0Bhubaneswar<\/strong>\u00a0by the\u00a0Institute for Social Development (ISD).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The campaign primarily\u00a0engages youth<\/strong>\u00a0across state of Odisha to raise awareness and mobilize collective action against gender-based violence.<\/p>\n

Through\u00a0AWAAZ DO<\/strong>, young people are trained and supported as\u00a0\u2018Change Makers\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0who challenge gender stereotypes, promote equality, and take a stand against all forms of violence. The campaign actively involves youth in the\u00a0annual global observance of the 16 Days of Activism<\/strong>\u00a0to end violence against women and has initiated a range of\u00a0awareness and capacity-building activities<\/strong>\u00a0across communities and campuses.<\/p>\n

As a result,\u00a0college campuses have become safer spaces<\/strong>, with\u00a0increased attendance of girl students<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0improved gender relations<\/strong>. The campaign has encouraged\u00a0healthy interaction between male and female students<\/strong>, inspiring many to question and overcome\u00a0gender restrictions within their families and communities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Today, AWAAZ DO has created a\u00a0dynamic network of young change makers<\/strong>\u00a0who continue to\u00a0mobilize their communities toward gender equality<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0support survivors of violence<\/strong>\u00a0at the grassroots level.<\/p>\n
